Protesters Rally for Second Day in Awkar against Military Intervention in Syria

For the second day in a row, a number of activists rallied in front of the American Embassy in al-Metn's Awkar neighborhood to protest the expected U.S.-lead military operation in Syria.

MTV remarked that a number of activists, intellectuals, bloggers and journalists took part in the protest.

"We reject any aggression against the sovereignty of an Arab state,” activist Ali Taleb stated during the protest, pointing out to previous foreign military interventions in Libya and Iraq.

He added: “The country is not looking for weapons or for an international resolution because the decisions made by international organizations have taught us that rights are earned not granted.”

"Syria, the land of Arabism and resilience, is in danger. But the country does not want protection as it safeguarded Arabs for a long time. It needs Arabs to stand by its side instead of calling on foreign countries to destroy it.”

"We do not want a (Arab) League that exports jihadists from Caucasus.”

Taleb assured that the “American Spring will not be achieved through Damascus, and certainly not through Beirut.”

"Oil has contributed to building towers and making money but it wasn't able to establish an identity,” he said.

"Palestine and Arabism cannot be replaced, and if Syria became isolated, it is not in Palestine's interest.”

Saturday's rally took place a day after a group of March 8 supporters demonstrated near the United States' Embassy also.

U.S. President Barack Obama warned he was ready to launch military strikes on Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime over its alleged use of chemical weapons.

Washington has accused the regime of Assad of carrying out the August 21 attack near Damascus, which U.S. officials say killed nearly 1,500 people, including hundreds of children.

Bunch of losers. Assadists have created problems and financed wars and bombs and milicias in the Levant for 40 years. You have no idea on how much the whole levant stands to gain if Assad falls.

As for the takfiris, we can beat them. Stop being motivated by takfiri fears.

Thumb lebanon_first 07 September 2013, 20:04

no baker. I dont intend to fight them in syria. I intend to defend lebanon. takfiris represent 0.01% of the lebanese population. We have a democratic system with everyone having their rights. They therefore has no reason to exist and no popular base. We can build a strong intelligence infrastructure and beat those takfiri thugs. We were able to kick israel out. We kicked syria out. We kicked PLO out. We can kick takfiris.
We built a strong central bank, a strong national airline, a strong CDR, we can build strong institutions and defend ourselves.

Thumb bustany 07 September 2013, 20:28

Takfiris no you can not beat. its a culture. A culture which can recruits 50% of Lebanese in 10 seconds. All you need is an Allah Wakbar from a clerk to convert suit-dressed guys to Takfiris. Look at what happened in Egypt. 2011 revolution: No Takfiries presence or Muslim brotherhood. 3 months after, 50% of population were Muslim brotherhood. Its a cancer started in Saudi Arabia and should be confronted there.

Missing hb9z 07 September 2013, 22:32

they are not a culture but a result of despair with no other way to turn to.....who else would blow himself up unless GOD is his only recourse on this earth?

Thumb bustany 07 September 2013, 23:05

its funny how people find an execuse and justification for someone blow self up. read this comment below. Despair???? DEspair what you kill yourself and others? you need help man, you do

Missing ArabDemocrat.com 08 September 2013, 17:58

Bustany -as usual you know nothing. The Muslim Brotherhood DID NOT START in Saudi Arabia (It started in Egypt with a strong presence in Syria). The Royals in Saudi Arabia has always been uneasy about the brotherhood. A case in point their support for the ouster of Mursi in Egypt.

Missing ArabDemocrat.com 08 September 2013, 18:02

hb9z is totally correct but bustany is a typical ignorant you meet among everywhere. It is their culture. They are evil..... They forget about the fact the overwhelming majority of Lebanese stood with the Lebanese army in its fight against the takfiris in Nahr Al Bared. They forget that the majority of soldiers killed in Nahr Al Bared fighting the takfiris were Sunni. They forget that when Lebanese army units were pinned down in Tripoli, it was local residents who came to their help. It is easier to be a bigot when you are supporting a monster that is slaughtering the Syrian people.

Missing samiam 07 September 2013, 22:28

baker, ASSad could have changed this from the beginning, but he basically invited the takfiris, jihadists and other radicals especially when it looked like it was going to be a ahia/sunni fight. Give extra props to hizb iran and iran for promoting that.

Missing hb9z 07 September 2013, 22:30

nahr el bared was dealt with by a faction of the lebanese army....looks like u have a hole in your memory or may be u only remember what u want......

FT - May be they are not Jaratheem but I wonder what you would call someone holding up the picture of a mass murderer. Alsi banima3roof does have a point: "how nice it is that they can freely demonstrate in front of a western embassy while lebanese cannot demonstrate in front of syrian or iranian embassy as you would get shot and killed!"

Thumb lebanon_first 07 September 2013, 19:26

That too

Thumb Roaring-FlameThrower 07 September 2013, 19:31

God Bless the "spontaneous", "natural", and "sincere" popular movements that stem from the will of the millions that we see demonstrate outside the embassy of the United Satanic States of America. These genuine people sacrifice their weekends, jobs, and livelihoods in order to let their voices be heard in rejecting this aggression against one of the purest forms of democracy and civilization. These people, contrary to common belief, are not paid and are acting of their own volition. They set an example of how we the lebanese have reached an advance stage of democracy that will be taught for generations to come.

Missing hb9z 07 September 2013, 22:33

really they have jobs to go to and love bashar so much.....why don't they go fight in syria?

Default-user-icon nfcs64 (Guest) 07 September 2013, 19:32

Go protest in Syria and Iran, Not In Lebanon. Oh Wait, I forgot people who attempt to practice this peaceful basic rights are squashed and exterminated in those countries !! We have enough internal filth and degenerates, no need for more. Time for RAID

My Shia brother rbaker: Don't worry about our metn from the takfiris. Worry about your Dahiyeh and Bekaa. Are you not worried about Saida, Beirut, Akkar or you are here just to incite your sectarian rhetoric.

"Amrika al Shaytan al Akbar". Right. Because it was America that responded to peaceful protests in Daraa with a rain of bullets. Brainwashed hypocrites...

Thumb bustany 07 September 2013, 20:31

There was also peaceful protestors in Egypt 2011 guess what? turn out it was a conspiracy by USA to install Muslim Brotherhood government in Egypt. These naive thinking has to stop. God Bless your intention!

It's a pity they can't illuminate this threat with their effective and proven method of sending an explosive laden car to deal with this matter. It's hard to have to resort to peaceful means of persuading others.

Thumb geha 08 September 2013, 07:42
