Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said his country considers any political measures that lead to meddling in Lebanon’s internal affairs as falling in Israel’s best interest.

“Interfering in Lebanon’s internal affairs, creating sedition and shaking its unity achieve the Israeli interest in the region,” the spokesman said.

Mehmanparast said “all the parties, people and the Lebanese cabinet expressed their stances towards” the indictment in the 2005 assassination of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri.

“The timing of the indictment’s release in conjunction with the formation of the Lebanese government and the issuance of the policy statement aims at affecting” the cabinet, he stressed.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman said the parties that are supporting the tribunal for political reasons “are targeting the Lebanese unity, and don’t want the cabinet to carry out its tasks peacefully.”
