Italy's Latin lover prime minister Silvio Berlusconi is in robust health and "can have sex six times a week," but should take one day off to rest, his doctor said in an interview published Wednesday.

"He's a superior man, both physically and intellectually," Umberto Scapagnini, a member of Berlusconi's People of Freedom party and the premier's personal doctor said in an interview with Novella 2000 magazine.

"He can have sex six times a week, without overdoing it. And on the seventh day he should rest," he said.

"It's not a bad average, especially for a 74-year old man who has shrugged off a prostate tumor," Scapagnini said.

He had also advised his Don Juan-emulating patient on "injections in the base of the penis which have an immediate effect" and the importance of "saving energy" by taking a 45-minute nap after lunch every day.

Berlusconi is proud of his reputation as a seducer of young and busty women.

His ex-wife Veronica Lario filed for divorce after her husband attended the 18th birthday party of a blond temptress, saying he was "sick".

The premier has been dogged by sex scandals throughout his time in power and is currently on trial for allegedly paying to have sex with a Moroccan girl nicknamed "Ruby" when she was just 17.

His accusers claim he has thrown wild parties in which hand-picked girls strip off and pole-dance naked before the real orgy begins. Berlusconi has denied the allegations and insists he only holds genteel dinner parties.

As well as spilling the beans on the sexual abilities of his illustrious patient, Scapagnini, 70, also spoke out publicly in front of fellow members of parliament on Wednesday about his own experience in fighting off cancer.

"I fell into a coma and saw a tunnel of light. I was going along it when I felt my mother and Padre Pio take my hand," he said, referring to a popular Italian saint, as the Italian lower house sat in silence.

"The Lord's will was carried out and after 80 days I woke up. Today, I don't want others to decide things for me in my life. I want to decide," he said.
