Street action won’t be able to topple Prime Minister Najib Miqati’s government, “not now, not later,” a parliamentary majority source told As Safir newspaper in remarks published on Friday.

It said that the March 14 camp had nullified the use of such an option when it had previously ignored the massive popular protests that called for the toppling of the government headed by Premier Fouad Saniora.

“This camp believed that it would remain in power till the end of time and now that it is in the opposition, it realized that the street is one of its democratic weapons,” it remarked.

The March 8 camp staged an open-ended sit-in in downtown Beirut in December 2006 calling for the resignation of Saniora’s government.

It ended in May 2008 with him still in office.

Meanwhile, al-Liwaa newspaper reported on Friday that pro-government sources were content with the cabinet receiving the vote of confidence at parliament on Thursday, stressing that the government will immediately set plans and projects into motion, such as addressing security appointments and vacancies in the public administrations.
