A Mustaqbal bloc delegation led by ex-PM Fouad Saniora on Monday visited Kuwaiti Ambassador to Lebanon Abdul-Al al-Qinai to condemn alleged Hizbullah involvement in a “terrorist cell” that has been busted in the Gulf emirate.

Speaker Nabih Berri described as an “achievement” the recent Hizbullah operation against the jihadist al-Nusra Front group in the outskirts of Arsal, al-Joumhouria daily reported on Monday.

“What happened in the outskirts is a great achievement that is in its final stages,” Berri was quoted as telling his visitors.

The Internal Security Forces arrested members of a dangerous terror cell linked to the Islamic State group who were in motion mostly between the northern city of Tripoli and the region of Denniyeh north of Lebanon, the ISF said in a communique on Monday.

“As a result of field follow-up and preventive security measures carried out by the Information Division of the Internal Security Forces, in a bid to monitor the activities of terrorist cells, especially those associated with the Islamic State terrorist organization, the said Division succeeded in identifying members of a seriously dangerous cell working in favor of the IS inside Lebanon,” the Directorate General of the Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division said in the communique.

The second phase of a ceasefire deal reached between Hizbullah and the jihadist al-Nusra Front group militants is due on Monday, amid reports that top Nusra official Abu Malek al-Talli has already moved to the border town of Arsal and will likely be flown to Turkey later on, the pan-Arab al-Hayat daily reported.

Four men accused of plotting to bring down a plane planned to use poisonous gas or a crude bomb disguised as a meat mincer, reports said Monday, with Australian officials calling preparations "advanced".

The men -- reportedly two Lebanese-Australian fathers and their sons -- were arrested in raids across Sydney on Saturday evening.

Senior Hizbullah official Sheikh Nabil Qaouq reassured Sunday that his party will not employ its victory over al-Nusra Front in Arsal’s outskirts to “change the the internal equation” in Lebanon.

“This achievement is an achievement for everyone and Hizbullah has no intention to employ this victory to achieve political gains or to change the internal political equations,” Qaouq said.

Twenty-seven Lebanese nationals are among 120 people who have registered their names to leave the Ain el-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp for Syria’s Idlib as part of a deal reached between Hizbullah and the jihadist al-Nusra Front group, a top Fatah Movement official has said.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea has called for canceling upcoming parliamentary by-elections to fill three vacant seats in Tripoli and Keserwan.

Hizbullah's al-Manar TV station reported Sunday that the group was exchanging the bodies of dead fighters with al-Nusra Front along the Lebanese-Syrian border in the first stage of a settlement that would restore order to the border region.

Hizbullah said it is handing over the bodies of nine Nusra fighters in exchange for the bodies of five of its own who were killed in two weeks of battles along the frontier.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat hailed on Saturday Hizbullah's fighters who were killed during a battle to “eliminate” al-Nusra Front group militants from the outskirts of Arsal.

“We are waiting for the Lebanese army to conclude the operation in Arsal's outskirts, meanwhile we greet the martyrs of Hizbullah who have fallen during the first stage of the mission,” said Jumblat in a tweet.
