Ali Shrugs off Buqaiaa Incident, Calls for More Border Control

Syrian ambassador Ali Abdul Karim Ali hoped on Tuesday that Lebanese authorities would exert further efforts in controlling the border with Syria after blaming Syrian troops’ arrest of two Lebanese General Security members on a rocket attack from Lebanon on Syrian territories.

Following talks with Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour, Ali said: “When border guards are targeted or Syrian territories are targeted by fire from the Lebanese side, then the solution should come through coordination between the two countries” to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.

Phalange Demands Summoning of Syrian Ambassador to Object Violations

Phalange Party denounced Monday the Syrian security forces’ infiltration of the northern region of Wadi Khaled, urging the parliament to summon the Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali to object such a violation.

After its weekly politburo meeting chaired by leader Amin Gemayel, the party issued a statement condemning the Syrian violation of the Lebanese territory, supporting MP Sami Gemayel’s suggestion “that the cabinet should summon the Syrian ambassador to protest this hostile action.”

Weekly Campaign to Expel Syrian Ambassador Launched in Tripoli

A demonstration was held on Friday by a number of Syrian refugees and Lebanese nationals in the northern city of Tripoli in support of the Syrian revolution, reported the pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat on Saturday.

It added that they launched a weekly campaign to expel the Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali in protest against “the massacres being committed in Syria.”

Judge Saqr Charges Syrian Troops in Killing of al-Jadeed Cameraman

State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr charged on Thursday members of the Syrian army for killing al-Jadeed TV cameraman Ali Shaaban in the northern area of Wadi Khaled two months ago.

Saqr also charged the unknown soldiers with the attempted murder of Shaaban’s colleagues, reporter Hussein Khreiss and cameraman Abed Khayyat, after opening fire on them from the Syrian side of the border near Wadi Khaled on April 9.

Report: Jaafari’s Letter to U.N. Included False Data, Exaggerations

The context of the letter that Syria’s envoy to the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari submitted is exaggerated and contains false information as individuals are behind the arms smuggling operations and not “terrorist organizations,” An Nahar newspaper reported on Wednesday.

“Jaafari’s letter includes false information and is exaggerating the issue,” judicial sources told the daily.

Saudi ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awadh Asiri lashed back at the head of the Syrian mission, Ali Abdul Karim Ali, for accusing Saudi Arabia and Gulf countries of arming the Syrian rebels and being responsible for the Syria-destined weapons shipment recently intercepted by Lebanese army.
