"The Amazing Spider-Man" scaled to the top of the North American box office this weekend, beating cheeky teddy bear comedy "Ted," industry estimates showed Sunday.

The 3-D flick -- the latest take on the superhero-turned-cultural-icon -- netted $65 million during its first Friday through Sunday run on the big screen, according to movie tracker Exhibitor Relations.

Oscar-Winning Actor Borgnine Dead At 95

Veteran actor Ernest Borgnine, the star of dozens of films and television shows who won an Oscar for his portrayal of a shy butcher in love in "Marty," died Sunday, his manager said. He was 95.

"It's a very sad day. The industry has lost someone great, the caliber of which we will never see again. A true icon," the manager, Lynda Bensky, said in an email to Agence France Presse.

Teen heartthrob singer Justin Bieber was pulled over and cited for speeding "like a maniac" to shake off paparazzi Friday near Los Angeles, police and a lawmaker who witnessed the incident said.

Digital Album Sales Up; Adele's '21' Still No. 1

Overall U.S. music album sales dropped slightly in the first six months of the year, but digital album sales are up more than 13 percent over a year ago.

Tracking firm Nielsen SoundScan said Thursday that 57 million digital albums have been sold so far in 2012, compared to 50 million during the same period last year. Digital album sales comprise 38 percent of all album purchases for the first half of the year.
