The army conducted raids in the eastern town of Hereml on Thursday, arresting two people wanted on a number of charges, it announced in a statement.

Report: 27 People Kidnapped in a Year across Lebanon

Twenty-Seven kidnapping cases occurred in Lebanon, particularly in the Bekaa, within a year, An Nahar newspaper reported on Monday.

According to a security report obtained by the daily, the abductions were carried out by19 wanted suspects, most of whom reside in the eastern towns of Balbaak and Hermel, and three others from the Shouf region.

Two people were killed on Saturday in a shooting between security forces and a wanted drug smuggler in al-Hermel in the Bekaa, announced the security forces in a statement.

It said that the suspect, Hassan A., opened fire at an anti-drug police patrol when it became suspicious of the vehicle he was driving in.
