Speaker Nabih Berri has criticized parliamentary blocs that are pressuring him into putting certain draft-laws on the agenda of a legislative session, saying he is not their employee.

The Free Patriotic Movement and the Lebanese Forces had urged Berri to put a draft-law on giving the nationality to Lebanese expatriates on the agenda of the session.

Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awad Asiri stressed on Monday that he will demand Lebanese authorities to clarify a report on an assassination bid targeting him.

He pointed out that he had obtained no information or warnings on such an attempt, but refused to deny the report.

A Palestinian man was critically injured Sunday in an armed attack in the Ain el-Hilweh refugee camp near Sidon.

“Unknown gunmen opened fire at Palestinian national Mujahed Balous outside his house in the Ain el-Hilweh camp,” state-run National News Agency reported.

Local Lebanese TV networks on Sunday expressed their solidarity with the LBCI and al-Jadeed stations after some cable providers removed them from their packages.

“All TV networks express their solidarity with LBCI and al-Jadeed,” Wissam Mansouri, a lawyer for Lebanon's eight TV networks, announced at a press conference.

Foreign Minister Jebran Bassil stressed Sunday that the Free Patriotic Movement will not tolerate any attempt at granting the Lebanese nationality to Syrian and Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, as he noted that communal coexistence can defeat the extremist ideology of the Islamic State jihadist group.

“We won't facilitate the naturalization of Syrians and Palestinians when real Lebanese are deprived of it -- those Lebanese who emigrated to enable us to remain in our country,” said Bassil in Beit Lahya as he toured the towns of the Rashaya region.

Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi prayed on Sunday for Lebanon to witness a breakthrough for its political impasse.

Al-Rahi called on politicians, in particular Maronite figures, to elect a consensual president.

The Lebanese army heavily deployed on Sunday in the Bab al-Tabbaneh neighborhood in the northern coastal city of Tripoli, as the General Security apprehended a prominent member of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

Troops raided several areas in the neighborhood in search of suspects.

Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awad Asiri has allegedly been the target of an assassination bid that was foiled by Lebanese security agencies, al-Shiraa magazine reported in its latest issue.

According to the magazine, two suspects have been arrested in links with the case.

Al-Mustaqbal Movement leader and former Prime Minister Saad Hariri has reportedly agreed on a settlement with Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun regarding the appointment of his son-in-law Commando Regiment chief Brig. Gen. Chamel Roukoz as army chief.

According to Ad Diyar newspaper published on Sunday, Hariri's envoy will soon inform Aoun about his agreement.

The Lebanese army is reportedly mobilizing troops in preparation for a possible battle along the border near the strategic Syrian town of Qalamoun.

Speaker Nabih Berri stressed on Sunday in comments published in the pan Arab daily al-Hayat that Hizbullah should engage in the Qalamoun battle alongside the Lebanese army.
