Abdel Jalil: Algeria Won't Host Those Who Threaten Libya

Libyan leader Mustafa Abdel Jalil expressed confidence Monday that Algeria would not shelter anyone who poses a threat to his country, in a reference to Moammar Gadhafi’s family members who were granted asylum by Algiers.

"We appreciate the humanitarian position of Algeria for hosting the families, including women and children, but we are convinced that it would not shelter those who represent a threat for Libya's security," said Abdel Jalil after meeting Algeria's President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

Libyan Leader Begins State Visit to Algeria

Libyan leader Mustafa Abdel Jalil, head of the council that overthrew Moammar Gadhafi, arrived in Algeria Sunday for a state visit that comes amid a period of strained relations.

Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and an entourage of senior government officials and foreign diplomats met Abdeljalil at the airport when he arrived around 4:00 pm (1500 GMT), an Agence France Presse photographer said.

Libya Tests DNA in Search for Imam Sadr

Investigators are carrying out DNA tests on remains that could belong to Lebanese Imam Mousa al-Sadr, who mysteriously disappeared in Libya more than 33 years ago, an official at the ministry of missing persons told AFP on Saturday.

"We are testing the DNA of three separate bodies," said Esam Zregi, who heads the department for documentation and sample collections, adding that the final results would be ready in four to six weeks.

Libyan authorities have obtained “semi-confirmed information” about the presence of Imam Moussa Sadr’s body in a recently discovered mass grave in the Libyan capital Tripoli, Mustafa Abdul Jalil, head of Libya’s ruling National Transitional Council, said on Friday.

“Imam Sadr’s case was not on the front burner during this period, but some reports have suggested that the imam’s body might be among the bodies buried in a mass grave during the liberation of Tripoli” from slain Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi’s forces, Abdul Jalil said in an interview on France 24 television.

Report: Interpol Searches for Libyan Officials Involved in Sadr’s Disappearance

The Lebanese and Libyan authorities are coordinating attempts to pursue personalities that were close to Libya’s ex-leader Moammar Gadhafi through the Interpol to unveil the fate of missing Imam Moussa al-Sadr, An Nahar daily reported Friday.

The newspaper said that the dead Libyan dictator's spymaster, Abdullah Senoussi, is at the top of the list of the wanted personalities for his knowledge in al-Sadr’s case.

Libyan forensic doctors are carrying out DNA tests on human remains unearthed from a cemetery in Libya believed to be that of missing Imam Moussa al-Sadr.

Libya Appeals ICC Bid to Extradite Gadhafi Son

Libya, which wants Moammar Gadhafi’s son Seif al-Islam tried at home, on Tuesday appealed a ruling by the Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC) that he be handed over to the world court.

Report: U.S., Libya Probing Oil Firms over Gadhafi Ties

U.S. and Libyan authorities are probing oil giants including Italy's Eni SpA and Total SA of France for their past ties to the fallen regime of Moammar Gadhafi, The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday.

The Libyan general prosecutor's office is investigating "Libyan and foreign operators in Libya" for possible "financial irregularities," the office's deputy chief Abdelmajeed Saad told the Journal.
