Suleiman Inks Electoral Draft Law, Refers it to Parliament

President Michel Suleiman signed on Saturday the new electoral draft law and referred it to the parliament, the National News Agency.

The new electoral draft-law, which was approved by the cabinet in August, is based on proportional representation and divides Lebanon to 13 districts in the 2013 parliamentary elections although it is not likely to be approved once referred to the parliament as it was criticized by al-Mustaqbal movement and the Progressive Socialist Party.

The Free Syrian Army released on Saturday a Lebanese man who was abducted more than two weeks ago, media reports said.

Al-Mayadeen news network reported that the FSA freed 72-year-old Mahmoud Mohammed Fakih.

Report: Denmark to Give 2 Million Euros for Syria Refugees

Denmark will free up another two million euros to help provide aid to Syrian refugees and displaced people as a civil war rages in their homeland, Danish public television DR reported Saturday.

Out of the 15 million kroner (two million euros), 13 million will go to the U.N. refugee agency (UNHCR) and two million to the Danish crisis agency, which sends personnel and equipment to Syrian refugees in Jordan.

Syrian Troops Abduct Two Lebanese Men in al-Qaa

Syrian troops infiltrated on Saturday the border region of al-Qaa in the northern Bekaa and abducted two citizens, reported the National News Agency.

“One of the kidnapped men is from Abu Jabal family,” the NNA said.

China's Foreign Minister Expresses Worry about Syria

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi has told the new U.N. special envoy for Syria that Beijing is increasingly concerned about the worsening situation in the conflict-ridden Middle Eastern country.

Yang made the comments late Friday during a telephone conversation with Lakhdar Brahimi, according to a statement posted on the ministry's website.

Syria Rebels Target Regime Air Power

Syrian rebels launched deadly attacks on the military Saturday in a campaign increasingly targeting its air power, as President Bashar Assad's traditional ally Russia said it was "naive" to expect him not to fight back.

Rebel fighters captured the main air defense building in Albu Kamal on the Iraqi border, the Syrian Observatory for Human Right said, adding that "preliminary reports" suggested they had seized ground-to-air missiles that could boost their ability to down government aircraft.

Report: Syrian Shelling of Akkar Linked to Samaha Case, Calls for Syrian Ambassador’s Expulsion

The recent shelling of the northern region of Akkar from the Syrian side of the border is linked to the arrest of former minister Michel Samaha and the demands to expel Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali, reported the daily An Nahar on Saturday.

U.S. Presses Syria to Confirm Detention of Journalist

The United States urged Syria on Friday to confirm it is detaining an American freelance journalist who has been missing in the country for more than two weeks.

Austin Tice, 31, is believed to be held by forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad, according to The Washington Post and McClatchy Newspapers, who called this week for his release.

Suleiman: We Accept Every Iranian Aid that Does Not Violate International Laws

President Michel Suleiman described his talks with Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as “very useful”, adding that they had agreed on the “majority of issues”, reported the daily An Nahar on Saturday.
