9 People Charged with Assaulting Policemen Over Illegal Construction

Government Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr on Tuesday charged nine people with assaulting security forces while they were seeking to end building violations in Beirut’s southern suburbs.

The National News Agency said that Saqr charged the nine people, including one detainee, for confronting members of the Internal Security Forces and assaulting them while they were seeking to curb building violations in the area of Ouzai.

AMAL, Hizbullah to Address Illegal Construction as 2 People Killed in Clash over Violations in Tyre

Two people were killed and others wounded in a clash with armed forces as the latter were thwarting illegal construction in the southern city of Tyre.

The National News Agency reported on Thursday that residents prevented the security forces from performing their duty, which led them to open fire, killing a Palestinian Wissam al-Tawil and Lebanese Ali Nasser.

Lebanon Battered by Storm

A snowstorm lashed Lebanon on Wednesday as high winds reached 85 kilometers per hour and heavy rains drenched the Lebanese coast causing bumper-to-bumper traffic in several areas.

The Meteorology Department said the snowfall at 1000 meters could reach 800 meters above sea level on Thursday. Temperatures reached 6 degrees on the coast and below zero on mountain tops.

Army-UNIFIL Conduct Exercise in Natural Disaster Response

The Lebanese army and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) conducted an exercise in large-scale disaster response over the weekend.

The two-day exercise entitled “United Beacon” was carried out in the southern city of Tyre in cooperation with a number of government and non-government organizations, said a statement issued by UNIFIL.

Army Investigates Blast at a Garage in Tayr Felsay

The Lebanese army cordoned off a house in the southern town of Tayr Felsay after a suspicious blast at its garage on Saturday, the National News Agency said.

In cooperation with UNIFIL, the army found two power generators and a motorbike at the garage of the house owned by Rida Shalhoub, NNA said.
