Argentina's President Cristina Kirchner was admitted to hospital late Sunday suffering from fever, her office said.

The 61-year-old president began feeling unwell in the afternoon. She was admitted for tests and monitoring at the Otamendi Clinic in Buenos Aires, the statement signed by doctors Marcelo Ballesteros and Ricardo Solla said.

Mexican Troops Face Civilian Trial for 22 Deaths

Seven Mexican soldiers being held in the June killings of 22 suspected criminals will be tried by a civilian judge, three of them for homicide, federal justice officials said Sunday.

Afghan Deputy Governor Shot Dead in Kandahar

The deputy governor of Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province was shot dead late Sunday by a gunman while attending a class at the university, a local official said.

Abdul Qayim Patyal was rushed to hospital but died of his injuries there, the official Tawab Ghorzang told Agence France-Presse.

55 Killed in Suicide Blast at Pakistan-India Border Post

A suicide bomber killed at least 55 people Sunday at the main Pakistan-India border crossing, the blast tearing through crowds of spectators leaving after the colorful daily ceremony to close the frontier.

The explosion, which wounded more than 120, came at Wagah border gate near the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore after the "flag-lowering" ceremony, a display of military pageantry that attracts thousands of spectators every day and is popular with foreign tourists.
