3-Member Lebanese Network Arrested over Counterfeit Money Scam

Lebanon's State Security announced on Friday the arrest of a money counterfeiting gang and the confiscation of one million dollars of counterfeit banknotes.

A communique issued by the directorate-general of State Security said the three-member network was arrested after a go-ahead by Financial Prosecutor Ali Ibrahim.

The communique identified the Lebanese suspects with their initials as D.B., M.A. and M.S.

It did not specify when the arrest was made but said it was carried out in coordination between the directorate's command in the South along with those in Beirut and Mount Lebanon.

Members of State Security seized from the gang one million dollars of counterfeit banknotes, a stolen Nissan Sunny car and a weapon along with its ammunition.

The suspects have admitted that they have carried out scam and fraud operations, including the distribution of counterfeit 100 dollars banknotes, the communique added.
