Rifaat Eid's Residence Comes Under Fire

The Arab Democratic Party handed on Wednesday the army intelligence tapes showing the vehicle used by assailants to open fire on the house of Rifaat Eid.

Several unidentified suspects opened fire at Eid's residence in the northern city of Tripoli around midnight Tuesday, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The guards returned fire without causing any casualties, NNA said.

Eid is the politburo chief of the Arab Democratic Party which takes the Jabal Mohsen district of Tripoli as its stronghold.

The neighborhood's residents, who are mainly Alawites from the sect of Syrian President Bashar Assad, have been engaged in several rounds of deadly fighting with gunmen from the district of Bab al-Tabbaneh.

The Bab al-Tabbaneh neighborhood's residents are Sunni and support the uprising against Assad.
