General Security Warns of Phone Scams to Blackmail Citizens

The General Security Directorate warned on Monday citizens from falling victims to spam phone calls that aim at blackmailing them, noting that the scams are carried out by civilians and military personnel.

“A number of civilians and military personnel are contacting nationals on Lebanese territories demanding them to pay a sum of money and deluding them into thinking that there are legal claims against them,” the directorate said in a communique.

According to the statement, the suspects are deceiving those people that they can rectify the legal claims against them without carrying out any investigation with them and by paying an amount of money in exchange.

The directorate warned citizens from falling in the trap and to contact the number 1717 to file a complaint against those suspects to prevent them from deluding other people again or carry out such fraud.
