Halqi Wishes Salam Success as Muallem Congratulates Bassil

Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi on Tuesday sent a cable to Prime Minister Tammam Salam, in which he congratulated the premier on the formation of the new cabinet.

In the message that was published by Syria's state news agency SANA, Halqi hoped to achieve “further progress in the honest brotherly ties between the two countries and two peoples in all fields, and to achieve further security, stability and prosperity for them.”

The Syrian premier wished Salam “success in assuming this responsibility.”

Meanwhile, al-Manar and al-Mayadeen TV networks revealed that Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem had telephoned his Lebanese counterpart Jebran Bassil to congratulate him on the formation of the cabinet.

A 24-minister cabinet was formed Saturday according to the principle of the rotation of ministerial portfolios among the political parties as Salam stressed that it will hold the upcoming elections on time.

Salam and President Michel Suleiman said during the first cabinet session on Tuesday that the government was “made in Lebanon.”
