Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte on Friday dismissed reports that he would consider replacing European Council president Herman van Rompuy, whose term ends later this year.
"I haven't been asked and I'm not available," Rutte told journalists at a post-cabinet meeting press conference.
He was reacting to questions on a possible move to Brussels to replace Van Rompuy, whose second term as Council president ends in November.
Rutte's name has been bandied about in Brussels and in media reports since last month, but he and his deputy Lodewijk Asscher quashed the rumors.
"I always knew this was not an attractive position for him," Asscher told public broadcaster NOS.
