No official stance has been released by the March 8 alliance over the return of head of the Mustaqbal Movement MP Saad Hariri to Lebanon, but its circles hoped that his return will help resolve pending disputes in Lebanon, reported al-Joumhouria newspaper on Saturday.
Prominent March 8 sources hoped to the daily that the return “will not be employed to escalate the political rhetoric in Lebanon.”
“We hope that he brings with him initiatives to resolve disputes,” they added.
“Is he returning with initiatives or the same policies that do not open closed doors?” they wondered to al-Joumhouria.
Circles from the March 8 camp's Free Patriotic Movement meanwhile did not rule out the possibility of a meeting between head of the movement MP Michel Aoun and Hariri.
Hariri made on Friday a surprise return to Beirut following a three-year absence.
He met upon his return Premier Tammam Salam at the Grand Serail to discuss a Saudi military grant to the army aimed at providing it with arms to combat terrorism.
He later attended a security meeting at the Serail to discuss the same issue.
Hariri had repeatedly claimed that security reasons had prevented his return to Beirut.
