Israeli Soldier Dies of Wounds from Rocket Attack

An Israeli soldier injured by a rocket attack last week died of his wounds Friday, the army said, raising to 65 the number of soldiers killed during a seven-week conflict with Hamas.

Netanel Maman, 21, was struck by the rocket in the southern city of Ashdod on August 22, during the 50-day war between Israel and Hamas in and around the Gaza Strip.

The conflict also killed six civilians on the Israeli side, including a Thai worker and a four-year-old boy.

More than 2,100 Palestinians were killed in Israel's bombardment of the narrow coastal territory, nearly 70 percent of them civilians, according to the U.N.

The war began on July 8 and ended with a ceasefire on Tuesday.
