Lebanese customs agents arrested a man and his wife in Beirut on drug smuggling charges, announced the National News Agency on Wednesday.
It said that the customs anti-drug bureau raided their apartment in Beirut's Karakol al-Druze neighborhood where they discovered around 198,000 Captagon pills.
NNA said that the agents received an anonymous tip that led them towards a suspect, identified as S.A.M.
He was arrested in Beirut's Mar Elias neighborhood for the possession of a bag filled with a number of Captagon pills.
Following the interrogation of the detainee, a customs patrol raided his Karakol al-Druze apartment where they discovered a large amount of the drugs that were concealed in a “very professional manner,” said NNA.
Around 198,000 pills were seized.
The suspect's wife, M.M., was also arrested.
He confessed that he was safekeeping the drugs stash for a Saudi citizen, whom he had met while he was serving a jail term in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.
