Miqati to Snap Back at Aoun through Acts of Good Deeds

Prime Minister Najib Miqati’s sources refused to snap back at Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun saying the premier is keen on not bickering with any party.

In remarks to several Beirut dailies published Wednesday, the sources said that Miqati “is keen on not engaging in any dispute over the media campaigns” against him.

They said the premier’s answer to them would be through acts of good deeds. “It is time to be productive and look into the people’s demands and not to bicker with anyone although each person has the right to express his opinion.”

But informed sources told al-Liwaa newspaper that Miqati has expressed frustration at Aoun’s attitude. They said Miqati believes that the FPM chief is acting as if he is the prime minister of the country.

If Aoun continues to act this way, Miqati would take measures that would preserve the state and the post of the premier, they said.

On Tuesday, Aoun accused Miqati of protecting unlawful state employees under the slogan of the protection of his Sunni sect. He warned the prime minister that such a move would weaken his political position.

However, informed sources told As Safir daily that the MP’s scathing attack on Miqati would increase his popularity among Sunnis.
