At least 14 flights were delayed Monday at Qantas's Sydney Airport domestic terminal after two people entered a secure area without being properly screened, the airline said.
The security breach forced the re-screening of thousands of passengers, and followed similar incidents at both Sydney and Melbourne airports earlier this year.
"Two individuals entered the secure area at the Qantas domestic terminal at Sydney Airport this morning without having been screened by security," the airline said.
"As a result, all passengers were removed from the secure area so a sweep could be carried out. Re-screening of passengers has commenced."
The embattled carrier, which is facing strike action from 3,800 baggage handlers and other ground staff on Tuesday, said that at least 14 flights had been delayed by the security breach, affecting more than 2,000 passengers.
"The Australian Federal Police has been notified and Qantas will be conducting a full investigation into how the incident was allowed to occur," the airline said.
