Several Syrian Suspects Arrested in Arsal, Chouf

A number of Syrians were arrested on Wednesday during security raids in the Chouf region in Mount Lebanon and the northeastern border area of Arsal.

State security forces announced that they had arrested two days ago 12 Syrians, who confessed to taking part in the clashes with the army in August, reported LBCI television.

The Syrians were detained as they were traveling to Syria through a mountainous region between Ain Aata and Shebaa in the eastern Bekaa region.

On Wednesday, the Army Intelligence announced that it had arrested a number of Syrians in the Chouf region on terrorism charges.

They were detained during a raid on the Wadi el-Zayneh area.

Later on Wednesday, LBCI television said that the army arrested Syrian national Shadi Abdul Rahim Shennawi in Wadi el-Zayneh and that his computer "contained instructions for making hand grenades and logs of communication with terrorist groups."

Ever since the Arsal clashes, the army has been carrying out in recent weeks a number of raids against suspected terrorist hideouts.

A number of people linked to the unrest have been arrested, while others remain at large.

The clashes broke out between the army and Islamist gunmen from the Islamic State and al-Qaida-affiliated al-Nusra Front groups.
