Canadian Band Looks to Sell 'Tea Party' URL to U.S. Politicos

Canadian rock band The Tea Party is in talks to sell its web domain to the American conservative political movement for up to one million dollars, a U.S. magazine reported Monday.

BusinessWeek said the band's teaparty.com is among the top results for online searches for the phrase "tea party," which has both annoyed and given an unexpected boost to the nearly forgotten Windsor, Ontario band.

"So much damage has been done to our name by the political movement that we're considering selling (the website)," Tea Party bassist Stuart Chatwood told BusinessWeek.

The band members do not support Tea Party politics. "As Canadians, we're sensitive to all the criticism of socialized medicine," he said.

But they are willing to cash in on its rise in American politics.

The band recorded eight albums between 1991 and 2004 that sold 1.6 million copies. They broke up in 2005 but reunited this year for a Canadian tour.
