Militants from the extremist Islamic State group abducted Tuesday a retired Lebanese army soldier from the Wadi Hmeid area in the outskirts of the northeastern border town of Arsal.
He was released a few hours later after the gunmen "robbed him of his pickup truck," state-run National News Agency reported.
It earlier said militants from “the group led by IS militants Bilal al-Hujeiri and Adel al-Atrash kidnapped retired first adjutant Muhieddine al-Hujeiri from the Arsal region of Wadi Hmeid.”
They then took him to Arsal's rugged plains in a pickup truck, NNA added.
The IS and the Qaida-linked al-Nusra Front have been holding several troops and policemen hostage since August 2, when they overran Arsal and engaged in bloody clashes with the army.
The militants of the two groups have bases in Arsal's outskirts and in the neighboring Syrian region of Qalamun.
