SANA: Syria Seizes Arms Smuggled from Lebanon

Syrian authorities have seized at the Jdeidet Yabous crossing weapons and ammunition being smuggled from Lebanon, the state run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), reported late Thursday.

The truck smuggling the arms had an Iraqi license plate, it said. Authorities found 125 machine pump-action shotguns and more than 30,000 bullets for pistols secretly hidden in the truck, SANA added.

It said that Syrian authorities in the province of Homs seized in September a large quantity of weapons from a Lebanese truck.

The Lebanese army on Thursday found goods hidden in five small trucks for the purpose of smuggling them to Syria through the town of Deir al-Ashaer, the National News Agency reported.

NNA said a Lebanese army patrol made the discovery on the Kfarqouq-Yanta road in Rashaya.
