Clashes Break Out in Arsal between IS, FSA

Clashes erupted overnight Friday between the Islamic State and the Free Syrian Army in the northeastern border town of Arsal after the group seized FSA members.

The state-run National News Agency reported that IS fighters kidnapped several Syrians at gunpoint prompting Zahran Alloush group, which is linked to the FSA, to engage in battles with the IS to free them.

Heavy machineguns were used in the clashes that lasted an hour in Arsal's al-Shafaq neighborhood.

Casualties were reported in the gunbattles.

Jihadists from al-Qaida-linked al-Nusra Front and the IS are entrenched on the outskirts of Arsal on the porous Syrian-Lebanese border.
