Hakim from Beirut Port: Wheat Silos Conditions Rectified

Economy Minister Alain Hakim hailed the renovations at the Beirut Port, stressing that the wheat silos underwent major enhancements.

“The silos have been isolated from birds and rodents,” Hakim told reporters during an inspection visit at the venue.

He stressed that the work conditions of the silos have been improved.

“The wheat is good and we are working on enhancing the surrounding environment,” the minister added, pointing out that “wheat is continuously sterilized during the production process.”

Hakim stressed the importance of differentiating between the silos and granaries, which are firmly locked.

“Rodents will no longer enter the silos due to the isolation rods placed.”

Hakim revealed that Health Minister Wael Abou Faour will soon make a similar inspection visit to follow up on the changes.

“Abou Faour's recent statements were positive but renovation kicked off on June 2,” the minister said.

In December, Abou Faour vowed to refer the wheat silos case to the judiciary, saying that the carried out improvements remain less than the needed.

The minister sounded the alarm over the health of the Lebanese who are “sharing their food with pigeons and rats.”
