Loyalty to Resistance Accuses Mustaqbal of 'Violating Taef', Hindering Presidential Polls

Hizbullah's Loyalty to the Resistance bloc accused on Thursday the Mustaqbal Movement of violating the Taef Accord, while blaming it for the ongoing vacuum in the presidency.

MP Hassan Fadlallah declared after the bloc's weekly meeting: “The Mustaqbal party is responsible for violating the Taef Accord and obstructing the presidential elections.”

He accused the Movement of staging a “coup” against the Taef and held it culpable for the repercussions incurred by the vacuum in the presidency.

Lebanon has been without a president since May when the term of Michel Suleiman ended without the election of a successor.

Ongoing disputes between the rival March 8 and 14 camps over a compromise candidate have thwarted the elections.

The Loyalty to the Resistance and MP Michel Aoun's Change and Reform blocs have been boycotting electoral sessions over the dispute.

Moreover, the Hizbullah bloc hailed the implementation of the security plan in Beirut and its southern suburbs of Dahiyeh, which is a stronghold of the party.

“The plan is aimed at ensuring the safety of the Lebanese people and arresting violators,” continued Fadlallah.

He also emphasized that no violators will be protected and that everyone is under the law.

The Loyalty to the Resistance bloc reiterated its condemnation of Saudi Arabia's air campaign against Yemen's Shiite Huthi rebels.

“The kingdom has for several years let down the Arab people, especially regarding the Palestinian cause,” it added.

The army and Internal Security Forces kicked off on Tuesday a security plan in Beirut and its southern suburbs to apprehend outlaws.

Several suspects have since been arrested and a number of weapons and military gear have been confiscated in raids carried out by the security forces and military.
