Video of a Tunisian employee of the International Committee of the Red Cross kidnapped in Yemen pleading to be freed has been posted online, with the ICRC confirming its authenticity.
Nourane Hawas, responsible for a humanitarian aid program at the ICRC mission in the rebel-held capital Sanaa, was seized in December along with a Yemeni employee who was later released.
In the video footage, whose authenticity was confirmed by ICRC spokeswoman in Sanaa Rima Kamal, the kidnapped woman is seen wearing a veil and reading from a prepared text.
She says the video was taped on Wednesday April 13 2016 and calls on French President Francois Hollande, his Yemeni counterpart Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi and the ICRC to help secure her release.
"This is indeed our colleague who was kidnapped on December 1" last year, Kamal said.
She said the ICRC is actively seeking Hawas' release through contacts inside and outside Yemen.
She did not elaborate and refused to identify the abductors.
