Olympics: IOC Holds Up Release of Russia Team for Rio

IOC president Thomas Bach said the final Russian team for the Rio Olympics would only be known later Thursday as IOC officials rush to complete doping checks.

The final Russian list had been expected to be released at a press conference by Bach on Thursday. But he told reporters "we expect the final results of this panel to be ready for publication later today."

Bach said all international sports federations had to be informed before the list agreed by a three-member IOC panel could be released.

After a report by Canadian lawyer Richard McLaren alleged Russian government involvement in widespread doping, the IOC told individual federations to decide which athletes can compete in Rio.

The Russian Olympic Committee submitted 387 entries and according to an AFP count at least 119 had been eliminated by federations before final lists were submitted to the IOC panel.
