Report: Nasrallah Receives Bassil for Voting System Talks
Hizbullah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah received Foreign Minister and Free Patriotic Movement chief Jebran Bassil, where talks focused on the parliamentary electoral law, al-Akhbar daily reported on Friday.
The meeting took place a “few days ago” and it looked into “an integrated proposal as for a voting system format that was submitted by Bassil with a post-election roadmap, ” said the daily.
Free Patriotic Movement sources assessed the meeting as “very good” adding that “the electoral law was the main subject discussed.”
Bassil-Nasrallah meeting came shortly before political parties agreed on an electoral law based on full representation and 15 electoral districts.
A meeting between President Michel Aoun, Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Saad Hariri on the sidelines of a presidential Iftar banquet at Baabda Palace on Thursday, was culminated with Hariri announcing that an agreement has been reached and the “details will be finalized before the end of the parliament's term.”
“We have agreed on the framework of the electoral law and a committee will address the details and the final touches,” Hariri had said.
The term of the parliament ends on June 20.
