French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday that Lebanon must form a new government "as soon as possible" in order to promote cooperation between the two countries.
In remarks he made on Twitter, Macron wrote in Arabic that “France is working to ensure the stability and independence of Lebanon.
“I have held talks with the President Michel Aoun, and Prime Minister Saad Hariri, and we hope a Lebanese government is formed as soon as possible to promote cooperation between the two countries,” he said.
Lebanon’s government is on the verge of formation after strenuous efforts in the past days to ease the so-called Independent Sunni MPs obstacle.
A deal between Lebanon's political leaders has seemed close on several occasions, but they have repeatedly failed to reach full agreement on a line-up.
Lebanon's economy has often looked on the brink of collapse, but a Paris conference dubbed CEDRE in April 2018 earned it $11 billion in aid pledges.
France last week warned that Lebanon risked heavy losses if the unprecedented solidarity expressed by donors was to fizzle out.
