Bomb Causes Extensive Damage to Sarafand Liquor Store

An explosion ripped through a liquor store in Sarafand in the South overnight, causing $30,000-worth of damages, the shop’s owner said Thursday.

Ahmed Ali Hamdan told Voice of Lebanon radio station (93.3) that the bomb that targeted his shop around 2:30 am weighed 400-500 grams of TNT.

“This is a terrorist act that targets the country,” he said.

“They want to drive us out the country," Hamdan told Agence France Presse. "I opened the shop 17 years ago and I have never had problems with anyone.”

The bomb created a huge crater and damaged the windows of nearby shops.

The Internal Security Forces threw a tight security dragnet around the area and launched an investigation.

Last month, an explosion tore through Tyros restaurant in the southern city of Tyre, causing heavy material damage.

The attack came a few days before New Year's Eve and was the third of its kind targeting alcohol-friendly restaurants in Tyre in the past few months.
