Speaker Nabih Berri has reportedly emphasized during his recent talks with officials that naming ex-PM Saad Hariri to form a new government is "a basic need" at this critical stage in Lebanon to prevent attempts to awaken sedition, Saudi Asharq el-Awsat newspaper reported on Thursday.
Sources following the ongoing consultations to name a replacement for caretaker PM Hassan Diab, said that Berri has asserted during talks with Lebanese and foreign officials that Hariri is what the upcoming stage in crisis-hit Lebanon needs.
Berri held talks with Aoun on Wednesday and is set to meet with other officials to accelerate the government formation "under the main heading of reform," said the sources.
They pointed out that there are vigorous efforts ongoing to make a breakthrough before French President Emmanuel Macron returns to Beirut early next month.
