Hasek Handed Mission of Leading Lebanon to Maiden World Cup

Experienced Czech coach Ivan Hasek was on Thursday handed the task of taking Lebanon to a first-ever World Cup in 2022.

"Ivan Hasek is the head coach of the Lebanese national team," the Lebanon FA announced on Instagram.

Hasek, 57, a former Czech international who won 56 caps between 1984-94, was president of the Czech Football Federation and coach of the national team.

He has had stints in the Arab world with Al Wasl, Al Ahli, Al Fujairah and Emirates club in the UAE, Saudi side Al Hilal and the Qatar national team.

Lebanon will face Iran, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, Iraq and Syria in Group A of the final round Asian qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup to be staged in Qatar.

Hasek's deal also includes taking charge of the team for the 2023 Asian Cup.
