'Missing' Soldier Shows Up Late to Work after Family Blocks South Highway

A soldier whose relatives blocked the only highway connecting the capital to southern Lebanon on Monday to protest his “disappearance” has showed up one day too late for work, state-run National News Agency reported.

“He had been missing from his home since yesterday morning over personal reasons,” NNA said.

A group of young men from Barja, the hometown of Lebanese army soldier Ali Ibrahim Ghosh, blocked the highway near the Jadra intersection in both directions a day after he went missing, the agency said earlier on Monday.

Lebanese army units later reopened the highway.

But while the residents were blocking the road, a speeding BMW hit four people identified as Ayad al-Khatib, Salem Hamiyeh, Mohammed Damaj and Mohammed Terro, NNA said.

They were slightly injured, it added.
