Geagea says didn't nominate himself in order to facilitate presidential vote

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Saturday stressed “the need for everyone to commit to finalizing the presidential juncture, instead of obstructing it with the aim of imposing a candidate wanted by the obstructing party.”

“The LF has the biggest parliamentary bloc at the Christian and national levels, and despite this the party leader did not nominate himself in order to facilitate the process, backing instead the candidate Michel Mouawad, who won the biggest number of votes from the opposition,” Geagea added, in a meeting with the papal ambassador in Maarab.

“If there is a candidate who enjoys Mouawad’s characteristics and the ability to win a bigger number of votes than him, the LF and Mouawad himself will have no problem,” the LF leader went on to say.

He also emphasized that the LF wants “a candidate who has the minimum level of presence, prestige and sovereign and reformist sense.”
