UNRWA Vehicle, Clinic Set on Fire by Angry Protestors at Tyre Camp

A group of Lebanese and Palestinians have set on fire a vehicle and a health clinic of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East – UNRWA at a camp in the southern Tyre district.

The National News Agency said the attack took place at al-Shabriha camp on Tuesday morning to protest the death of a Lebanese patient married to a Palestinian man after UNRWA rejected to give her a hospital transfer permit three days ago.

The army and security forces were immediately dispatched to the area, NNA said. They cordoned off the scene of the incident and launched an investigation, it added.

Also in the South, 33-year-old Syrian Hussein Ofeiran was killed while a Lebanese named Jassem Shehade fainted after inhaling toxic fumes while cleaning a manhole not very far from the waste dump of the city of Sidon.

Shehade lies in a critical condition at Hammoud hospital, NNA said.

It added that security forces launched an investigation into the incident.
