President Joseph Aoun on Thursday visited the Central Bank in Beirut’s Hamra area and met with its newly-appointed governor Karim Souaid and his four deputies.
During the meeting, Aoun called for “working transparently, professionally and technically, away from political, partisan and sectarian interferences.”
“Security stability is essential, but financial stability brings investments and achieves recovery in the economic cycle,” the president added.
“We’re working on putting Lebanon on the track of recovery and the reformist laws are the best proof of our determination to provide all the legal standards for helping in the recovery process,” Aoun said.
Souaid for his part said the Central Bank’s work “will be based on the applicable laws, away from any political or sectarian interference, in order to protect the Central Bank’s independence.”
