Qassem says Hezbollah ready for both peace and war

Hezbollah chief Sheikh Naim Qassem said in speech broadcast Sunday to mark Ashoura’s last day that his group will “continue the resistance” and “will not be part of legitimizing occupation in Lebanon.”

“We will not accept a humiliating normalization … and these people do not accept disgrace and surrender,” Qassem stressed.

“The threat with a new agreement (with Israel) does not make us accept capitulation and the aggression must be rather asked to stop,” Hezbollah’s leader added.

Noting that Israel must first “implement the (ceasefire) agreement’s terms, withdraw from occupied territory, halt its aggression and allow for reconstruction to begin,” Qassem said Hezbollah would then be willing to “discuss national security and the defense strategy.”

“We have enough flexibility to reach consensus,” he added.

“America’s equation asking us to choose between being killing or surrender does not concern us and we will cling to our rights,” Qassem went on to say.

“In the name of Hezbollah, I declare that we are ready for both choices -- for peace, building the country and engaging in utmost cooperation for revival and stability, and also for confrontation and defense. We are people who cannot be defeated and we will not give up our dignity and rights,” he added.
