Berri and Geagea spar over expat voting

Speaker Nabih Berri on Monday accused Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea of attributing remarks to him about the issue of expat voting.

“Where did you get these remarks from? Don’t you have anything left in your bag other than attributing statements to me?” Berri asked Geagea.

Geagea had earlier told Berri in a statement on X: “Mr. Speaker Nabih Berri, you cannot put yourself in the place of parliament. Your remarks that ‘we tried expat voting in the previous parliamentary elections for one last time’ is a statement that undermines parliament, the parliamentary system, the Lebanese system and entire democracy.”

“Mr. Speaker, perhaps over the past 40 gears no one has told you this but I will say it to you now: the side that decides in parliament is the parliamentary majority, not you not any other person, with our full respect to you and to anyone else. Either there is a constitution, law and order or there is the law of the jungle. We will no longer tolerate the law of the jungle,” Geagea added.
