The head of Hezbollah’s Loyalty to Resistance bloc, MP Mohammad Raad, has stressed “the need for some in Lebanon to realize that the enemy’s goal is to swallow Lebanon, including them, and that it is creating an excuse after another to achieve this objective.”
“All Lebanese must unify their stance to prevent the enemy from achieving its goals, especially that the most important thing blocking aggravated Zionist aggression is the unity of the Lebanese stance and the coherence of Lebanon’s domestic front,” Raad added.
“Let it be clear: the resistance -- which was initially launched due to the state’s inability to protect its people and country -- will continue its national duty until the state proves its ability and readiness to perform its defense and national protection duties,” the Hezbollah lawmaker said.
He added: “When a comprehensive strategy for security and national defense is discussed, the resistance’s position and necessary role would be re-defined, along with the roles of the other forces and institutions in the country.”
Israel has repeatedly bombed Lebanon despite a November ceasefire, which brought to an end more than a year of hostilities with Hezbollah that culminated in two months of open war.
As part of that deal, Israeli forces were to withdraw from southern Lebanon and Hezbollah was to dismantle its forces in the region and eventually across the country.
Under U.S. pressure and fearing an escalation of Israeli strikes, the Lebanese government has moved to begin disarming Hezbollah, a plan which the group has opposed.
