Israel strikes Haret Hreik building, says targeted key Hezbollah commander

Israel's military said Sunday that it had carried out a strike on a senior member of Hezbollah in the Beirut southern suburb of Haret Hreik.

"A short while ago, the IDF (Israeli army) conducted a precise strike targeting a key Hezbollah terrorist in Beirut," the Israeli military said in a brief statement, adding further details would follow.

Israeli media reports meanwhile said the strike targeted Haitham al-Tabtabai, identifying him as Hezbollah's "number 2" and the group's "military chief."

Video footage showed heavy smoke and two destroyed floors of a residential building in Haret Hreik.
