Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji told Wednesday his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi that he can only meet him in a neutral country but not in Iran, after the latter invited him to visit Tehran.
Rajji said, in a letter to Araghchi, that his refusal to visit Iran is because of the circumstances which are not currently favorable and not because he doesn't want to hold talks with Iran.
The minister said that Lebanon is willing to establish a "new era" of constructive relations with Iran, "provided that these relations are based exclusively on mutual and absolute respect for the independence and sovereignty of each country and non-interference in domestic affairs in any way and under any pretext."
"The building of any strong state cannot be achieved unless the state alone, with its national army, monopolizes the right to have arms and is the exclusive decision-maker in matters of war and peace," Rajji added.
