Qassem urges state to stop 'free concessions', vows no return to 'previous situation'

Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem on Friday called on the Lebanese government to stop giving what he called "free concessions" to Israel, with the two governments due to begin negotiations in Washington next week.

"We will not accept a return to the previous situation," said Qassem, an apparent reference to the 15 months before the outbreak of the latest Israel-Hezbollah war, when a ceasefire was nominally in place but the Israeli military continued to carry out near-daily strikes in Lebanon that it said aimed to stop Hezbollah from regrouping.

"We call on officials to stop offering free concessions," Qassem added in a written message broadcast on the party's Al-Manar TV, in which he also denounced the "bloody criminality on Wednesday," when Israeli strikes killed more than 300 people in Lebanon.

"The resistance will contine until the last breath," he vowed.

"The Israeli enemy has failed on the battlefield... It has been unable to carry out the ground invasion it repeatedly announced," Qassem said.
