Israel's military action not enough to stop Hezbollah drones, security official says

Israel has no military solution to the Hezbollah drone threat even if troops occupy all of south Lebanon, Israeli reports said.

A security source told Israel's Kan public broadcaster that a political breakthrough is needed, as occupation will not solve the drones' problem.

"Even if we occupy all of southern Lebanon, as some are suggesting, these steps will not be able to destroy the last explosive drone or Hezbollah’s last rocket," the source was quoted as saying.

"Military action is not enough. A political breakthrough is needed, hand in hand with prolonged military deterrence, in order to try and change the situation,” the source said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that Israel was "holding territory, clearing territory, protecting Israel's communities, but also fighting an enemy that is trying to outsmart us".

"We are facing the challenge of neutralizing FPV (First-Person view) drones," he said, as Hezbollah has increasingly made use of the drones to strike Israeli forces.

"This is a specific type of threat ... my directive to the team is to find a solution for this, and for the next threat that will come."
