The European Union has received an official request from Lebanon to deploy a European security mission on its territory and the EU foreign ministers will approve the deployment of this mission on Monday, a European diplomat said.

The source told Al-Arabiya’s Al-Hadath channel that the security mission will comprise more than 100 military personnel, with participation from France, Spain and Italy, and that its initial units are scheduled to arrive in Beirut by the end of this year.

He stressed that the mission will be tasked with supporting the Lebanese Army and security forces, emphasizing that it will not deploy in south Lebanon.
