Report: LF Mulling to Boycott Meeting of Christian MPs in Bkirki

Lebanese Forces MPs are mulling to boycott a meeting of Christian lawmakers in Bkirki next month over their dispute with Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi on his stance from the Syrian revolution, sources told pan-Arab daily al-Hayat on Monday.

But the Phalange party, which is their ally in the March 14 opposition coalition, believes that there is no excuse for not attending the April 3 meeting, the sources said.

They stressed, however, that the final decision on their attendance lies in a large-scale meeting of March 14 leaders.

LF MP George Adwan reiterated in remarks to al-Liwaa newspaper on Monday that his party will not remain silent to any harmful statement made by al-Rahi on Hizbullah’s arms and the situation in Syria.

Al-Rahi accused LF chief Samir Geagea last week of allegedly misinterpreting his statements on Syria.

The patriarch has on several occasions announced his concerns over the Christians in the region amid the ongoing crises and expressed fears that the violence in the Arab world could turn the Arab Spring into an Arab winter.

A spiritual summit will be held in Bkirki on Sunday in the presence of the Sunni, Shiite, Maronite and Druze spiritual leaders, along with the members of the Christian-Islamic Committee for Dialogue.
